Being the child our main priority, at GEAR we chose to focus on nurturing the student with kindness, respect & sensitivity, always open to individual differences at their level of academic performance.
Every child is unique, its mind “absorbent”, developing at its own pace and within specific planes of development. Identifying the distinctive qualities of each child, we will guide him/her not only towards an acquisition of knowledge, but also towards values and skills to approach life with independence and motivation.
Encourage the child to be resilient and have joy in this journey of learning, is our main goal. It is fundamental and very important to us that those children/students who struggle with academic performance and have trouble focusing and studying because of stressful circumstances also find strength and joy in the process of learning. The latter we will approach with Bio-Neurofeedback Therapy Training, which combines the learning experience with the managing of the stress generated in their direct environment or circumstance. (Different from others)
GEAR will look at the alternatives, with the solution in mind, no matter how long that takes…. our approach will be focused on how to get there “before” it turns into a problem….observation, assessment and being the child our main priority, at GEAR we chose to focus on nurturing the student with kindness, respect & sensitivity, always open to individual differences at their level of academic performance. The environment of the child always offer the solution….it is the key to prevention.
I was born in 1961 in The Hague, The Netherlands. My father worked all around the world for the Royal Dutch Airline, KLM, and I ended up growing up in different countries, mainly in Venezuela. By the time I finished high school in the Netherlands I spoke Dutch, Spanish, English and some French and German. I got married and moved back to Venezuela. I traveled extensively and was able to learn a lot about different cities, countries and cultures.
In 2001, I chose to go back to “school” and started a Bachelors Education program at the “Universidad Catolica Andres Bello” in Venezuela. I earned my Degree as a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 2005.
As Psychology was also embedded in my educational career and I wanted to expand my knowledge about children with Learning Differences, I started working at a Private Practice called “Neurospa”, in 2003. There I worked as a Neurofeedback Technician and assistant to the Clinical Psychologist. Neurofeedback was used as a tool to help young children and adolescents to manage anxiety levels and mood changes caused by high levels of stress and the expectations in the classroom. Here at Neurospa, individualized attention was provided, and each child/student received one-to-one tutoring in the subjects that needed reinforcement.
While working there, I decided I wanted to know a little more about Child Development and earned a Master’s Degree in Child Pedagogy at the University of Leon in Spain.
In 2012, I moved to Miami, Florida; Earned a Masters Degree and Education Specialist Degree in Montessori Education and worked as a Teacher at Casa dei Bambini Montessori School in Miami Beach for three years; at this point GEAR for Children was created.
In 2016, I became Board Certified in Neurofeedback, and re-Certified in 2019 in both Bio-and Neurofeedback.
