Hi. I'm Elizabeth

I'm an educator at heart with extensive expertise and training in one-to-one and group tutoring. My approach is to identify the distinctive qualities of each child, guide him/her not only towards knowledge acquisition, but also values and skills that will help them face life with independence and motivation. If your child is experiencing learning difficulties, I can help.

Here's How I Can Help

Montessori Tutoring

I use a Montessori-style approach to help students with their homework and other matters associated with academics. A custom plan is developed based upon the needs of each individual student and input from teachers and parents. Sessions can be one on ones or small group tutorials.

Bio-Neuro Feedback Sessions

Using a non-invasive computer based approach, I monitor real time readings of physiological processes and/or brain activity to help teach self-regulation. This increases the absorption of knowledge in a more effective way, and brings the brain back to its natural balance. It allows the child to lighten stress levels, and learn at his/her own pace.

Why Choose GEAR?

“Elizabeth Van Schendel is one of the most efficient people I have ever worked with. In my capacity as a co-teacher, I have seen the scope of Elizabeth's abilities firsthand. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable in all subject areas of the Montessori curriculum, but she is also knowledgeable in all subject areas there are! Elizabeth's ability to balance all the work required between academics and managing a classroom full of upper elementary students is superb. She is on track, focused, and is cognizant of everyone's abilities, whereabouts, and progress 100% of the time”.

Melissa Peña Koch | Upper Elementary Teacher

“I have known Ms. Elizabeth for years now and she has consistently been our go-to-person for education-related counseling and support for our three daughters. Ms. Elizabeth not only has an outstanding formal education and curriculum but, most importantly, the soft skills and experience that are required to help children thrive”.

– Marta | Casa dei Bambini Montessori School

“Ms. Elisabeth has been a shining light in our home during an uncertain time- she has been a consistent face and presence during unstable times. Our daughters look forward to working with her each week and I love seeing all the wonderful work they do together”.

– Happy Parent
